Rally Judge’s Report – 10th May 2015

Most years I try and attend the Samoyed Rescue Rally at Overseal Village Hall at the beginning of May, and this year I was there again, but this time I had the pleasure of judging the classes. Arriving just before 12 and the stalls were all set up ready, tombola, cake stall, a large table of Sammy items for sale, a lot of which were handmade and very unique. Then there was the trophy table and the kitchen where the ladies were kept busy all day. A qualified canine masseur was also setting up her treatment table, she was advising owners on whether their dogs would benefit from having a massage treatment.  Of course, there were lots of dogs making themselves heard whilst their owners queued waiting to enter them in the 20 plus classes! Yes, it looked like it was going to be a very busy afternoon for me!!

Outside, the judging ring was being set up and the all the prizes/rosettes laid out on the tables. It was evident that no-one would be going home empty-handed, there was so much food and treats to give out to the winners. There must have been over 50 dogs and most classes were well filled, and I really enjoyed meeting all the dogs and their handlers. The sausage race was great fun, and so popular with several heats before the final. Plenty of sausages though, so all the dogs had a sample!

What a great job Brenda Walker and her team do, it’s amazing too that she remembers the names of all the rescue dogs and their owners that attend. I’m sure everyone is so grateful for the work she does, and obviously, they all enjoy the Rally as they come back year after year. My Best in Rally was Snowie who had travelled all the way from Cornwall to attend. He was a veteran, but so well looked after, and in top condition.
